B08b. Navigating New Zealand’s Evolving Clinical Trials Landscape

Abstract

New Zealand is undergoing significant legislative and regulatory updates to ensure its clinical trials framework remains world-class and adaptable to industry advancements. The introduction of innovative therapies and MedTech devices has highlighted the need to modernize the existing Medicines Act (1981), prompting ongoing consultations and reforms.

As a prime location for clinical trials, New Zealand offers a highly skilled workforce, high participant retention rates, diverse populations, and high-quality data. Many clinical research professionals manage studies across both Australia and New Zealand, making it essential to understand the key differences in ethical, regulatory, and cultural requirements between the two countries.

In this presentation, the New Zealand Association of Clinical Research (NZACRes) will provide an overview of the clinical trials landscape in New Zealand, equipping Australian researchers with the knowledge, processes, and tools needed to conduct successful studies.
