Biography
Dr Tim Boyle is the CEO of ARCS Australia and a globally recognised leader in research translation and intellectual property commercialisation. With over two decades of experience, he specialises in technology licensing, industry collaboration, and launching new ventures across diverse technological fields both domestically and internationally.
Previously, Tim served as Director of Innovation & Commercialisation at ANSTO (Australia’s Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation), where he founded and led the nandin Innovation Centre, cultivating Australia’s largest community of science-based startups. His roles at ANSTO encompassed business development, licensing, and technology commercialisation, solidifying his reputation as a champion for translating research into impactful products and services.
Tim’s extensive background includes influential positions in knowledge exchange and commercialisation at UNSW, where he led the global Easy Access IP consortia to accelerate practical applications of intellectual property. His earlier career featured significant roles in technology development and knowledge transfer with organisations such as Thomson Reuters (now Clarivate Analytics), Johnson & Johnson, Avexa, AMRAD, and University College London.
A passionate advocate for innovation policy and metrics, Tim possesses deep expertise in maximising the societal and economic impacts of academic and mission-based research. He has held governance and advisory positions across several prominent organisations, including Executive Chair of the Alliance of Technology Transfer Professionals (ATTP), Deputy Chair of ShireBiz, and Non-Executive Director and Life Member at Knowledge Commercialisation Australasia. His advisory roles also extend to the NSW Innovation and Productivity Council, National Imaging Facility (NIF), Standards Australia, and the Institute of Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Technology (IIET).
Tim earned his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Wollongong and holds credentials as a Medtech and Pharmaceutical Professional (MMPP), Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP) and Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD). Recognised for his significant contributions to innovation, Tim has received numerous accolades, including twice winning the George Collins Award for Innovation and the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation (Technology). He is currently an Adjunct Professor at Swinburne University of Technology and serves as a Global Expert Faculty member with Singularity University.
