Australian Teletrials Program National Office
Chair: Australian Teletrial Program (ATP) - Sector updates
Abstract
Patients in regional, rural, and remote (RRR) settings have barriers in accessing advanced healthcare due to the vast geography and cultural differences in Australia. Australian Teletrial Program (ATP) is a first of its kind transformational program funded by the Commonwealth Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) that aims to improve access to, and participation in, clinical trials for RRR located Australians. This initiative is being implemented in Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, Queensland, and the Northern Territory. The ATP through the Australasian teletrial model enables infrastructure support including personnel expertise and logistics for RRR trial sites to access clinical trials under the supervision of an experienced primary trial site located at a larger centre. This session will discuss the perspectives from different stakeholders in implementation of this change management program with key aspects on diversity of patient population, preparing a country health system, building a pipeline of teletrials and holistic models of teletrials in a dispersed system.

Heather Parker
Program Manager - Australian Teletrial Program, Northern Territory
NT Health
ATP-NT: Diversity in teletrials
Biography
I'm the program manager for the Australian Teletrial Program in the Northern Territory. My background is in nursing, primarily in the theatre and perioperative space. I earned my Master of Public Health in the U.S., having moved there in 2020 during the height of the pandemic—a challenging but rewarding experience, and this May I commenced a Master of Business Administration.
During my time in the U.S., I worked as a research assistant at my university, which sparked my interest in research and clinical trials. Since joining the Australian Teletrial Program in October last year, I've been thrilled to work with a team of dedicated and passionate professionals.
On a personal note, I'm an avid traveller with a love for exploring new places. I've been to 40 countries so far and lived in three—Australia, the U.S., and the U.K.—and I'm always planning my next adventure!
